Australian Railway Blog

Welcome to the Australian Railway Blog. If you're looking for something highly technical then this blog is not really for you. Instead it gives me a chance to share some of my photo collection with you.

I started taking photos in 1968 and just got in towards the end of the steam to diesel transition period. At that time I lived in New South Wales and was brought up on 38's, 36's, 32's - all the standard goods classes - Garratts and even a few tank locos.

Various transfers with my job took me across the Central West of New South Wales and I was around the Portland area when they were still operating steam shunters at the cement works. Since then I've travelled through Victoria, lived in Tasmania and now I'm in Queensland and my camera has got plenty of use along the way.

I don't just photograph the trains, buildings, bridges and industries are all of interest to me and I'll share some of those photos with you here in the blog.
